What Food Goes with Butterfield Station Merlot?
Butterfield Station Merlot and Grilled SteakButterfield Station Merlot is mid-bodied, soft in its tannins, and smells like black cherries dipped in dark chocolate.  Full of ripe black fruits, and splash of rhubarb, this Merlot is sure to please any crowd.  The accessibility of Butterfield Station Merlot allows it to pair well with a variety of foods, but here are four great dishes we think you’ll love this wine with.

Duck Breast and Merlot

Butterfield Station Merlot is sublime with duck breast as the berry flavours in the wine, such as cherries, cranberries, prunes and dark raisins complement the flavours of duck nicely.  This wine has a bit of an earthy and rhubarb quality, which allows it to go quite nice with the gaminess of the duck too.

Meatloaf and Merlot

To many Meatloaf is comfort food, and to others, Merlot is comfort wine!  Butterfield Station Merlot and Meatloaf go well together as often Meatloaf is full of fresh herbs.  The earthy quality of this wine really picks out and compliments those elements.  Merlot really loves foods that are high in fat and protein and texture as all of these traits really soften the wine and let its true flavours shine.

Pepperoni Pizza and Merlot

Merlot goes great with Pepperoni Pizza as Pizza has a lot of texture, fat and protein to soften the wine.  The wine on the other hand, cleanses the palate due to its acidity, allowing the flavours in the Pepperoni Pizza to shine through.

Grilled Steak

Butterfield Station Merlot goes beautifully with grilled steak, as the charred flavours in the steak highlights the touch of oak found in this red wine.  Our recommendation is to serve the steak with a side of mushrooms as it will mesh well with the earthy flavours in this wine.
