Seafood Macaroni and Cheese Recipe and Wine Pairing
This is a fairly easy dish to make, which is only held back by your imagination. Mix your favourite type of cheese with macaroni, and add your favourite seafood ingredients to the dish. You can use boxed Macaroni or Cheese if you’re on a budget, and precooked canned or frozen seafood for the extra convince. Macaroni and Cheese is an extremely rich dish, and for that reason we suggest a Chardonnay. The roundness of a Chardonnay that has been aged in some oak will match the full body of the dish. Meanwhile those tropical Chardonnay flavours will add quite a bit of zest to the seafood, ensuring that they don’t get lost in lush cheese flavours in this dish.Macaroni and Cheese and White Wine
An acidic Sauvignon Blanc will highlight those seafood flavours even more, but may strip away from the cheese flavours a touch too much. For that reason, we would recommend you only use this wine for recipes that aren’t overly cheesy, or pair this wine up with Seafood Jambalaya for a more incredible pairing.Riesling, Viognier and Pinot Grigio are also excellent choices, and are food friendly enough to go great with this dish. Viognier is always excellent with Seafood. Its common traits are ripe and sweet fruit flavours, with a creamy texture. This is an exotic wine that will harmonize quite nicely with this velvety creation.
Red Wine and Seafood Macaroni and Cheese
In our mind, red wine is out of the question as they will overpower the seafood component. If you must however serve red, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir and Beaujolais will not destroy this meal. We’d prefer it if you met us halfway and served a Sparkling Wine, or a Rose. They’ll serve as better partnerships in flavour than a tannic or heavy red wine.Written by: Joel Baxter
